Can a chemical peel be used to smooth the skin on my upper chest? I think years of being in the sun with a bathing suit on has aged this skin. I look pretty bad when I wear a dress or blouse that exposes my chest at all.
Yes and no. A physician very skilled in peels could do a medium depth TCA (tricholoracetic acid) peel, but it can be risky. Healing after a peel (chemical or laser) is from the pilosebaceous units in the skin, the hair follicles and sweat gland units. They are not plentiful on the chest so scarring is a risk. Better ways to treat this area for hyperpigmentation are intense pulsed light (IPL) or Portrait plasma. I use plasma less often here, but it can tighten the skin a bit after a number of treatments.
