What can dermabrasion be used to treat?
A real dermabrasion is much deeper than today’s microdermabrasions. Microdermabrasion is a spa treatment that cleans off the outer layer of the skin, the stratum corneum. It will make the skin look fresher and is repeated at 6-8 week intervals at first and then periodically from then on. A dermabrsion is done with a diamond burr or wire brush.
It is a treatment for scars and some wrinkles. It has largely been replaced with carbon dioxide skin resurfacing for more consistent results, safer healing, and more control of the procedure. Also, a dermabrasion is a fairly bloody procedure. The laser resurfacing is bloodless.
