Question : I notice that when I am not smiling, it looks like I am frowning. People actually comment that I seem angry. I don’t know if this involves just my mouth or both my mouth and eyes. Would a consultation help me identify whether I need a cheek lift, an eyelift or both?

Question : What areas of the face does Dysport work in? Does it work well when injected into the chin area?
Answer : All of the FDA approved botulinum toxin, Botox, Xeomin and Dysport, are approved for the glabella (the area between the brows). They are all also commonly and safely used “off label” in the forehead above this area, the crows feet, the chin, then neck and the corners of the mouth. A new technique using low does mini injections in the skin also can flatten wrinkles without affecting the muscles below.
Question:
Dysport and Botox seem to do the same thing. Is one more advantageous than the other for a woman in her mid-fifties with heavy frown lines?
Answer:
They are very similar in onset of action and duration of action. Sometimes Dysport seems to spread upward a bit more, which can be an advantage. Xeomin is new to the market. We will have it tomorrow.
Question:
I keep hearing that Dysport is supposed to be better than Botox. Is this true and how?
Answer:
There is no absolute data that shows that one lasts longer or works better. It is all dose related and some people react better than others. I think Dysport spreads upwards a bit more on some patients but I do not have controlled, double blinded studies. The newest botulinun toxin, Xeomin, will be available soon. Actually we will have it November 1, before it is generally available. It is different by the fact that the protein which protects the toxin in the GI intact has been removed. This is supposed to the prevent immunity sometimes seen with the others, Botox and Dysport.
Question:
After many Botox injections, I'm no longer getting the same results that I used to get and seemed to have developed a tolerance. Will switching to Dysport solve this or will I have a tolerance to this as well?
Answer:
Yes, it may. You may be immune to Botox. This often goes away but sometimes not. My nurse no longer gets any results with Botox but gets nice results with Dysport and often an exaggerated brow lift, which she loves.
