Question:
What is Fractional Skin Resurfacing? What does it do and how effective is it?
Answer:
All of the lasers used for skin resurfacing now are “fractional”. This means that the beam the hits the skin in made up of a regular pattern of tiny, parallel beams with a regular spacing between them that leaves untreated areas also. The theory is that the skin will heal quicker if more normal tissue is left behind. It works well for some fine lines, but patients with deeper lines often need more than one pass with the laser, which essentially winds up treating the entire surface.
