Question : I notice that when I am not smiling, it looks like I am frowning. People actually comment that I seem angry. I don’t know if this involves just my mouth or both my mouth and eyes. Would a consultation help me identify whether I need a cheek lift, an eyelift or both?

Question : I am a 45-year-old woman from Framingham who has been getting regular lip filler injections for the past 3 years. I am getting really tired of this and was wondering if there is a more permanent procedure for lip enhancement?
Answer : I stopped doing permanent lip augmentation about 7 years ago, when I became convinced that hyaluronic acid gives a more natural and more customizable solution. The permanent solutions often look to “fish mouthed” and can extrude. I would be happy to see you for an opinion.
Question : I am interested in lip enhancement and I'm just wondering if there's such a thing as an ideal lip?
Answer : There are some key elements to an ideal lip; but more important, I would like to know what you perceive as the deficiency in your lips. Not everyone should have the same lips.
Question: I am a 30-year-old woman from Worcester, MA. I have very thin lips. What would be the best option for me if I want fuller lips, but want them to look as natural as possible?
Answer: We could easily see you for a consultation and treatment the same day. I routinely use hyaluronic acid fillers for lip augmentation, Juvederm, Restylane, Perlane and Belotero. I have gone away from using permanent implants because the fillers can be more easily personalized. My goal is always a very natural look, not a duck lip look….called by some “LA Lips”. Question :
I'd like to enhance the look of my lips but don’t want a full-on surgical procedure. What are some non-surgical options for a lip enhancement?
Answer :
I like the hyaluronic acid fillers for this. The treatments are less expensive than surgery and can be customized much better than a surgical implant. Here is a link to some photos:

Question :
I want lip augmentation via injectable fillers. I am most interested in hyaluronic acid fillers. After the injections, will my lips swell and if so, for how long? Will my lips feel soft and natural or does the filler make them somewhat harder?
Answer :
Hyaluronic acid works not just by filling but also by drawing fluid into the area. In the lips I believe the attraction of fluid is the primary way they augment your lips. So, yes, your lips will swell. This is part of the affect. Usually the amount of swelling decreases some over a few weeks. The real result is at about 3-4 weeks. You should not really notice much difference in softness after that time.
Question:
I recently heard of something called lip sculpting. Is this different from lip augmentation?
Answer:
Not really. In lip augmentation you are adding volume and changing the shape of the lips. We have a lot of different lip photos on our website:
Question:
I have an uneven upper lip line. Would injectable fillers make it look more even?
Answer:
This can be very difficult to accomplish but is possible.
Question:
My lips have been thinning with age and it's really been bothering me. I used to have great luscious lips and I'd love to have them back to how they used to be, but I'm very hesitant of lip augmentation. The results I've ever seen look so unnatural. Are there other options that can augment the lips more naturally?
Answer:
Please take a look at the images on this page. I think you will find them largely very natural. The very large lips are done only on patient request.

Question:
How does Juvederm compare to Restylane for lip augmentation?
Answer:
I prefer Juvederm or Perlane to Restylane for lip augmentation in most cases; they are more concentrated, draw more fluid into the lips and seem to last longer. That said, in patients who want just a minimal change I use Restylane. Also, be careful about putting too much hyaluronic acid in the lips; you don’t want the overdone LA look. I think a natural look is better. Here is a link to look at some photos. http://www.drbentkover.com/photogallery/lip-augmentation
Question:
I have great teeth so get quite a few compliments on my smile. But as I have gotten older, I notice that my lips seem to be thinner (could this just be my imagination?). I would like to have lip enhancement using the most highly recommended injectable filler. Is collagen still the best material? Can this cause any sort of allergic reaction?
Answer:
I do not know anyone who is using collagen these days. Most physicians wouldn’t; I don’t even think it is available. I use hyaluronic acids like Restylane, Juvederm and Perlane for lip augmentation. The rate of adverse reaction to the materials is about 1 in 5000 to 8000. My patients really like the results.
