Question : Are the results of liposuction permanent? I’d like to get liposuction on my neck.

Answer : Well, the fat that is removed does not come back. However, if you gain weight, the remaining fat cells can enlarge, as do the fat cells all over your body.

Question : I am male, 54 years old and have neck creases. The skin seems to come towards my Adam’s apple and fold in. Would a neck lift solve this problem? What takes place during this surgery?

Answer : If the problem is due to laxity of the skin, a neck lift may certainly help.  During a neck lift procedure the muscles of the neck and the overlying skin are tightened.  Sometimes some liposuction at the same time is beneficial.

Question:
I am thinking about having facial liposuction around my chin and jaw to create a more defined profile. How long would the results of this kind of procedure last?

Answer:
The fat is permanently removed; but as you age, your skin will, of course, begin to sag.  This will probably be noticeable in your late 40’s or early 50’s.

It depends on the area treated. They are usually hidden behind the ear or in the hairline.

Question:
How does the laser assist liposuction? What are the benefits over traditional liposuction and can it be used on the face?

Answer:
It vaporizes the fat and heats the skin.  Sometimes this can lead to tightening of the skin.

Question:
What is the difference between a necklift and neck liposuction and when is one better than the other?

Answer:
Liposuction is just that, just liposuction.  It is often part of a necklift, but only a part.  The rest of the lift elevates the neck roughly parallel to the lines in the neck and tightens the large muscle under the skin, the platysma.  Liposuction only may work for patients 40 and under.  Patients over 40, depending on familial tendencies, may need to have the muscles and skin tightened.  In these patients just liposuction can lead to extra skin that hangs down.

Question:
I've read about the tumescent technique for liposuction and it sounds like this is incorporated into many if not most liposuction techniques. Is this same tumescing fluid used during laser liposuction?

Answer:
Yes and no, It depends on the personal preference of the surgeon. In the neck it is often unnecessary.

Question:
I’m interested in a facelift, though my main concern is the neck area. What is the difference between removing just fat from the neck area with liposuction and tightening the muscles there? Is one approach better than the other?

Answer:
It depends on how much fat you have and what is the real problem. If you are not yet middle aged and just have some excess fat under your chin liposuction alone may be all you need. If the platysma muscle in your neck has two distinct looking bands under you chin and further down, you probably need, at least, a platysmaplasty. In this operation the muscles are drawn together in this area or overlapped to give a better neck line. Liposuction is often done with this.

Question : I notice that when I am not smiling, it looks like I am frowning. People actually comment that I seem angry.  I don’t know if this involves just my mouth or both my mouth and eyes. Would a consultation help me identify whether I need a cheek lift, an eyelift or both?
