Question:
I think I need a neck lift. The skin hangs down around my neck in folds. Where is the incision and is the neck muscle actually tightened? Can you remove some neck fat at the same time?

Answer:
The first incision is under the chin in a crease.  It is about 1 ½ inches long.  Through this incision the platysma muscle is tightened. The next incision is made around the ear lobe and extended up into the crease behind the ear. The back end of the platysma is tightened through this incision and skin trimmed as the neck is elevated.  Liposuction is performed to liposculpt the neck as needed.

Question:
I am very self-conscious of the fat on my neck. I would really like to have liposuction done in that area. What is the procedure like now? Would I be under local anesthesia? Or have I got this all wrong and I need a neck lift?

Answer:
Whether or not you would benefit from just liposuction, liposuction and a submental platysmaplasty or a liposuction plus a full neck lift depends your age, the amount of fat in your neck and the laxity of the muscles in your neck. Liposuction alone works sometimes for patients under 45 or so, but often a platysmaplasty to tighten the muscles under the chin is better. Both of these are part of a full neck lift, which pulls the neck up also.

Question : I notice that when I am not smiling, it looks like I am frowning. People actually comment that I seem angry.  I don’t know if this involves just my mouth or both my mouth and eyes. Would a consultation help me identify whether I need a cheek lift, an eyelift or both?
