Question : I notice that when I am not smiling, it looks like I am frowning. People actually comment that I seem angry. I don’t know if this involves just my mouth or both my mouth and eyes. Would a consultation help me identify whether I need a cheek lift, an eyelift or both?

Question : During a neck lift, what do you do to improve neck banding?
Answer : The bands are caused by sagging (ptotic) bands of the platysma muscle. This muscle is just under the skin. It is tightened under the chin and at its out edges if needed.
Question : I am male, 54 years old and have neck creases. The skin seems to come towards my Adam’s apple and fold in. Would a neck lift solve this problem? What takes place during this surgery?
Answer : If the problem is due to laxity of the skin, a neck lift may certainly help. During a neck lift procedure the muscles of the neck and the overlying skin are tightened. Sometimes some liposuction at the same time is beneficial.
Question :
I never thought I would start to wear turtlenecks to hide my neck but I do! How dramatically improved can I expect my neck to be after a necklift? Can I throw my turtlenecks away?
Answer :
Generally, yes. But some of the answer to that depends on your age. At age 50 it is much easier to get a really tight neck than at 70, but it is still worth having surgery at 70.
Question :
I have a sagging neck and am desperate to get rid of it. I’d like a necklift but don’t want a large scar. Are the incisions relatively small?
Answer :
It is not an issue of the size of the scar, it is about careful closure of the incision and the length of the incision. There are usually three incisions. The first is about 1 inch long and hidden in a crease under your chin. The other two begin in the crease between your earlobe and cheek and go around the back of the ear lobe and into the hairline. Our patients are usually able to wear their hair up without any concern. Here are some photos to examine:

Question:
I had a necklift several years ago and the results were great but I'm starting to see the beginning of jowls again. Is there some reason why the results have only lasted a few years and what should I do now?
Answer:
Unfortunately, nothing is permanent. You are continuing to age. You may need a tuck up.
Question:
I think I need a neck lift. The skin hangs down around my neck in folds. Where is the incision and is the neck muscle actually tightened? Can you remove some neck fat at the same time?
Answer:
The first incision is under the chin in a crease. It is about 1 ½ inches long. Through this incision the platysma muscle is tightened. The next incision is made around the ear lobe and extended up into the crease behind the ear. The back end of the platysma is tightened through this incision and skin trimmed as the neck is elevated. Liposuction is performed to liposculpt the neck as needed.
Question:
I am interested in a neck lift. I am assuming that some skin would be removed so there must be scars. Do the scars for this procedure, or any type of facial surgery, often need to be refined later?
Answer:
Usually the scars are fine. They are most visible behind the ears, but even then our patients do not hesitate to wear their hair up. Here is a photo of the healed wound 1 year after a full lower facelift. The scars for a neck lift are even shorter. See if you can find the scar:
Question:
What exactly is the difference between a necklift and a facelift? How do you know if you’re a candidate for one over the other?
Answer:
A full lower facelift combines a cheek lift to lift the cheeks and improve your jaw line with a necklift to tighten the neck. There is a formula on my facelift page that explains it all
FULL LOWER FACELIFT = NECKLIFT + CHEEKLIFT
I think you will find this page on my website explains it all:

I am planning on having ear surgery soon. How likely is it that others will notice that I have had this procedure?
Question:
What is the difference between a necklift and neck liposuction and when is one better than the other?
Answer:
Liposuction is just that, just liposuction. It is often part of a necklift, but only a part. The rest of the lift elevates the neck roughly parallel to the lines in the neck and tightens the large muscle under the skin, the platysma. Liposuction only may work for patients 40 and under. Patients over 40, depending on familial tendencies, may need to have the muscles and skin tightened. In these patients just liposuction can lead to extra skin that hangs down.
Question:
I am very self-conscious of the fat on my neck. I would really like to have liposuction done in that area. What is the procedure like now? Would I be under local anesthesia? Or have I got this all wrong and I need a neck lift?
Answer:
Whether or not you would benefit from just liposuction, liposuction and a submental platysmaplasty or a liposuction plus a full neck lift depends your age, the amount of fat in your neck and the laxity of the muscles in your neck. Liposuction alone works sometimes for patients under 45 or so, but often a platysmaplasty to tighten the muscles under the chin is better. Both of these are part of a full neck lift, which pulls the neck up also.
