Question: I am a 30-year-old woman from Worcester, MA. I have very thin lips. What would be the best option for me if I want fuller lips, but want them to look as natural as possible?

Answer: We could easily see you for a consultation and treatment the same day.  I routinely use hyaluronic acid fillers for lip augmentation, Juvederm, Restylane, Perlane and Belotero.  I have gone away from using permanent implants because the fillers can be more easily personalized. My goal is always a very natural look, not a duck lip look….called by some “LA Lips”. Here is a link to some of the patients we have injected:

Question:
I would like lip augmentation with an implant. I would expect that my lips would be somewhat swollen after the procedure but are they so swollen that I would not be able to go to work the next day? Is there any chance that the swelling will persist longer than expected?

Answer:
I prefer hyaluronic acid (Perlane, Juvederm, Restylane) to permanent implants. I have done many permanent implants over the years and find the fillers to be more customizable and forgiving. That said, you lips will probably be larger than you want for about a week, but often nobody notices.

Question:
What brand of injectable filler best eliminates deep wrinkles from the sun?

Answer:
It depends on the depth and location of the wrinkles. Usually the hyaluronic acid fillers are Restylane, Perlane and Juvederm work well for this. Perlane is usually my preferred product, lasts longer than Restylane and you get more in the syringe than with Juvederm.

Question:
I am a 28 year old interested in receiving a collagen treatment for my upper lip. How would we decide on whether to use a human or bovine derived injectable?

Answer:
I really do not recommend collagen for this. Also, to my knowledge, neither product is still available. I recommend a hyaluronic acid like Perlane, Restylane or Juvederm.

Question:
I am interested in making my lips fuller, both the top and bottom. I really don’t know what this means. Is it surgical, some type of filler or even an implant? What is the safest and most reliable method?

Answer:
I have moved away from permanent implants because it is very hard to know exactly what a patient wants until you do it. Fillers can be modified with each treatment. You can always put in more at a next treatment or use less once it goes away. I like subtle, but some of our patients want dramatic and get s second syringe 3 weeks after the first injection. I like hyaluronic acid for this, usually Perlane or Juvederm. I have seen persistence of the result for 9-12 months and even some permanent change.

Question:
I'm interested in getting lip augmentation to plump up my lips. What are my options?

Answer:
I prefer hyaluronic acids like Restylane, Perlane and Juvederm.  Yes, they are temporary, but in most cases look very natural.  Typically they last about a year.  I used to use Advanta, a woven Teflon like GoreTex, but some times this extrudes.  It also cannot be modified.  Be careful and go slowly with injections.  You want the lips to look natural.  You don’t want the Beverly Hill blowfish look.  Most people want a natural look but everyone’s natural is not the same.  Here is a link to some examples: http://www.drbentkover.com/photogallery/lip-augmentation.

Question : I notice that when I am not smiling, it looks like I am frowning. People actually comment that I seem angry.  I don’t know if this involves just my mouth or both my mouth and eyes. Would a consultation help me identify whether I need a cheek lift, an eyelift or both?
